The Tale of Tyger's Tail

The week before Christmas, Tyger had surgery to have his tail amputated.

Off and on over the past year, Ty has had a bandage on the end of his tail. (Boxer's tails are really soft, so they "break" easily and bleed a lot.) We were ok with having it bandaged until he decided that he didn't want the bandages on it anymore. He decided to pull them off and eat them...super gross...and then throw them up...even more gross. So, if that wasn't enough, he kept licking the end of his tail where the sore was and it became infected. That was the last straw. We talked with our vet here in New Orleans and decided to get his tail amputated.

After surgery, Ty seemed ok, even wanting to wrestle with Kolsch the next day. But a few days later, he decided to pull off his bandage. We had to take him back to the vet to get it bandaged again and get him an ecollar. So now whenever we put him in the crate he has to wear the collar. He hates it, but is getting used to it. At least it keeps his bandage on. He gets his stitches out on Jan 4th. Below are a few pics of him without a tail...he looks so different.

This is a few days after surgery. Notice where they shaved his tail.

He looks different, like a "real boxer".

This was Tyger after surgery. He was so sleepy. We let him lay on the couch with us. He had a bandage on his tail and his leg where the IV was.
